Merimbula Square |
Describe the location of this projectThis shopping complex is located in the main street of Merimbula at a major intersection directly opposite the lake and boardwalk. The building has a curved corner at the intersection, hence the name – Merimbula Square. How did you approach this project?Planning indicated that the lower level should contain street frontage shops and the upper level a restaurant, residence and carpark at the rear. The sloping site is level with the ground at the rear. The site is tidal sand at the front and rock at the back. The building is piered on steel screw in poles with tensioned ground and first level slabs. What is unique/special/different about these shops? In order to avoid the project from looking like just one big building mass, the street frontage was articulated so that the facade is broken up and the experience of shopping is varied and dynamic. What comments have you received? The best big development in Merimbula. In the Merimbula Town Study, Merimbula Square has been used as a good example of what can be achieved with good design.
